Water ActivitiesStand Up Paddle Board Tournaments
The popularity of Stand Up Paddle Boarding just keeps on growing. At this year's Bae Fest the sport will shine with race tournaments across Swansea Bay and also free taster sessions for newcomers to the sport on both Saturday and Sunday. Just find us at the big green tent on the beach and say hi! One of the main water activities will be the Swansea SUP Across The Bay 6K paddle board distance race (men's, ladies and junior categories) and also the fast, furious and quite unique Oyster Catcher 3K Race. The races The 6K distance course will hug the shoreline of Swansea Bay while the Oyster Catcher race will take paddlers out to sea to a designated point where they have to 'Catch the Oyster' before dashing back to shore. The total distance of this race is 3K. The Junior class is for under 18 year olds. The race distance is 2K. All levels welcome!
You do not need to be a fast paddler to enter the races, but you must be proficient and have sufficient paddle experience to take part. As part of the water safety requirements, ALL participants must wear a leash during races. No leash, no entry! IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON BOARD SIZES
You can enter on any size SUP board, but the main class for which the main prizes will be awarded is 12'6. This is to reflect the popularity of this board size and that the vast majority of racers will be using this size. There is a first place slot and medal for the winning rider on 14' in each race. |

***IMPORTANT UPDATE 23rd SEPTEMBER 2013***
Due to significant shifts in weather predictions, we have decided to hold back on releasing the final schedule for the races until we have a little more certainty (if there is such a thing!) on the best day to hold the races over the weekend.
As it stands now, Saturday looks like heavy easterly winds while Sunday looks perfect, but we all know that can change over night. In the event that Sunday does turn out to be the best option for the main schedule of races, we’ll still go ahead with a downwinder race on Saturday just for the hell of it!
Thanks for your patience, we’ll update you as soon as we can.
